Thailand Steps Into the Future: THIM, the Country's First Immigration Management App, Goes Live on AWS

Bangkok, 28 May 2025 — Thailand is taking a decisive step towards the digitalisation of its public services. Amazon Web Services (AWS), in partnership with Digital Identity Co., Ltd and the Thailand Immigration Bureau, has officially announced the launch of THIM – Thailand Immigration Management System, the country's first web and mobile platform dedicated to national immigration management. This ambitious project, built entirely on AWS cloud infrastructure, reimagines the entry experience for millions of international travellers.

Bangkok, the World's Most Visited City: A Massive Infrastructure Challenge

The backdrop could not be more significant. Bangkok has once again confirmed its status in 2025 as the world's most visited city by international arrivals, a distinction that places enormous pressure on border control and immigration management systems. Faced with this reality, the Thai government has chosen to invest in cloud technology to modernise processes that, until now, have remained largely paper-based or fragmented.

It is against this backdrop that THIM was born, developed by Digital Identity Co., Ltd on behalf of the Thailand Immigration Bureau. The platform leverages AWS cloud services to ensure scalability, security, and operational continuity — even during peak periods of international arrivals.

What THIM Can Do: Key Features

THIM is designed for all foreign nationals entering Thailand, regardless of visa category. Available in both web and mobile versions, the platform introduces a range of innovative features that streamline and speed up entry procedures:

  • Digital pre-registration before arriving in Thailand, reducing waiting times at border checkpoints
  • Passport scanning directly within the app, enabling fast and secure traveller identity verification
  • Centralised immigration data management for authorities, with real-time access to information on entry flows
  • Compatibility with all visa categories, making the platform a universal tool for tourists, workers, and foreign residents alike

The Role of AWS: Cloud as the Engine of Modernisation

The decision to build THIM on Amazon Web Services was no accident. AWS cloud infrastructure offers the flexibility needed to handle highly variable data volumes — an essential capability for a system that must respond to Thailand's seasonal tourism peaks — while maintaining the highest security standards in the handling of sensitive data such as biometric and travel document information.

AWS, a division of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), has already supported numerous government digitalisation initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region. The THIM project fits squarely within this trajectory, reinforcing cloud technology as a strategic driver of public sector transformation across the region.

A Blueprint for the Future of Digital Governance in Asia

The launch of THIM represents far more than a straightforward technological upgrade: it signals a new vision for public governance in Thailand — one centred on efficiency, transparency, and user experience. At a time when competition between tourist destinations is increasingly shaped by the smoothness of the welcome travellers receive, simplifying entry into the country is as much a strategic decision as it is a cultural one.

With THIM, Thailand is not simply digitising a bureaucratic process: it is redefining the very first point of contact between the country and the wider world. And it is doing so with the most advanced cloud computing tools available on the market today.
