The Debut

Bentley unveiled the Torcal on September 23, 2026, the first fully electric model in the marque's history and its second SUV after the Bentayga, positioned as a more compact variant. The launch comes as the Volkswagen Group, Bentley's parent company, has revised electrification strategies across its premium brands, with demand for luxury electric cars still to be tested in the market.

Powertrain and Platform

The lineup includes two versions, Torcal and Torcal S, with power output of up to 888 horsepower, 0-60 mph acceleration in 2.9 seconds, and WLTP range close to 600 kilometers. The technical foundation is the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), the same architecture used in the Porsche Cayenne Electric, with active hydraulic suspension standard across the range and rear-wheel steering on all trims. The styling draws on the EXP 15 concept: rectangular headlights inspired by the Arnage, an illuminated diamond-mesh grille, and the new logo introduced in 2025.

Interior: Merino Wool and Mulliner Craftsmanship

The standout feature of the cabin is its upholstery made from 100% Merino wool, the first automotive fabric ever crafted from pure Merino wool, developed by Bentley's Colour, Materials & Finish team together with Fox Brothers, a historic Somerset weaving mill operating since the 18th century. The material carries Responsible Wool Standard certification.

The dashboard retains Crewe's signature "wing" design, featuring a curved central OLED screen, 16-way adjustable seats with massage and ventilation, a dimmable panoramic roof, and a 28-speaker Naim audio system. The Ombré Walnut by Mulliner finish is built from up to 1,000 layers of walnut offcuts and recycled paper, pressed and cut to less than a millimeter thick. The new Sunburst Aluminium by Mulliner reinterprets hand-engraved aluminum dashboards.

An augmented-reality head-up display projects navigation and ADAS indicators into the driver's field of view. A synthetic sound recorded with percussion instruments replaces the absent combustion engine noise, both inside and outside the car.

Pricing

Starting price is £173,000, roughly $230,000 at current exchange rates, lower than the Bentayga but enough to preserve the brand's internal hierarchy. According to Bloomberg, the Torcal serves as a test of wealthy customers' appetite for electrification among historic luxury marques.
