A body to accelerate technology adoption

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) established the Future of Finance Institute (FFI) during the Association of Banks' annual dinner on 25 June 2026. The stated goal is to close the gap between technological experimentation and large-scale adoption in the financial sector. According to MAS, the institute "will work directly with industry to accelerate the transition from experimentation to large-scale deployment of new technologies, lowering barriers to adoption for institutions of all sizes."

Pre-existing initiatives brought under one roof

The FFI brings together projects Singapore had already launched in previous years. The MindForge AI Risk Management Toolkit, developed by a consortium of banks, insurers and technology companies, manages risks tied to artificial intelligence. PathFin.ai counts more than 200 participating financial institutions working on AI use cases. Project Guardian has tested tokenisation use cases across six currencies covering foreign exchange, funds and fixed income. Project Orchid has worked on purpose-bound money and the infrastructure for a digital Singapore dollar.

Four operating areas

The Knowledge Hub gathers validated use cases, implementation playbooks and a roadmap for skills development. The Innovation Garage coordinates collaboration on AI and tokenisation initiatives among research institutes, fintechs and financial institutions. The Industry Sandboxes provide controlled testing environments for programmable money, tokenised assets and AI-driven workflows. The Implementation Toolkits include the Programmable Compliance Toolkit for tokenised assets and an updated version of the AI Risk Management Toolkit with guidance for implementing agentic AI.

Governance and board composition

The FFI's board of directors includes representatives from MAS, major financial institutions, technology companies and academia, alongside professionals with combined experience in finance and technology.

Parallel professional training

Alongside the FFI's launch, the National Trades Union Congress and the Institute of Banking and Finance rolled out a programme to train up to 100,000 finance professionals in artificial intelligence skills over three years. MAS stated the institute will create "opportunities for Singaporeans to take on emerging roles as new technologies reshape the financial sector."
